JAMES BROWN

Il 3 maggio 1933 ad Atlanta in Georgia, nasce James Joseph Brown in una famiglia molto povera. È molto rapidamente confrontato alla durezza della vita e deve seguire i suoi genitori nei campi per raccogliere cotone o incerare scarpe nel centro città di Augusta o i suoi genitori si è installato poco di tempo dopo la sua nascita. Era noto anche con alcuni soprannomi (molti autoattribuiti), fra i quali "Soul Brother Number One", "Mr. Dynamite", "The Hardest-Working Man in Show Business", "Minister Of The New New Super Heavy Funk", "Mr. Please

Please Please", "Universal James", "Funky President", "The King Of R&B", e il più noto di tutti, The Godfather Of Soul, il padrino del Soul. Negli anni settanta è stato bandleader del gruppo The J.B.'s citato spesso con nomi alternativi quali The James Brown Soul Train, Maceo and the Macks e The Last Word. Come gruppo a sé stante, i J.B.'s hanno suonato anche come backing band di Bobby Byrd, Lyn Collins ed altri cantanti. Nel 1980 ha interpretato il ruolo di reverendo Cleophus James nel film The Blues Brothers. È rapidamente confrontato alla violenza e partecipa ad un attacco a mano armata all'età di sedici anni. È in prigione che farà la riunione di Bobby Byrd e diventare membro del suo gruppo di gospel in 1952. James Brown diventa rapidamente il capo del gruppo che registrerà due album e rivoluzionerà il mondo del rythm and blues. Nel 1963, l'uscita dell'album live “Live At Apollo” completa il successo del cantante e lo aziona alla fila di star nazionale. Collega gli album ed i tubi a nel 1970 e l'uscita ormai classico del "Sex Machine". James diventa meno prolifico a partire dalla metà degli anni settanta, ed occorre attendere 1985 per trovarlo al vertice della sua forma con il titolo "sala in America" che serve alla banda originale della pellicola "Rocky IV". Ahimè, ritorno sulla parte anteriore della scena si è rapidamente interrotto poiché James è condannato a sei anni di prigione per detenzione di armi. Con il seguito, alternerà gli arresti per violenza coniugale (sposato 4 volte, è padre di 6 bambini) possesso di droghe, ecc. le sue prestazioni scenico continuano a condurlo ai quattro angoli del mondo ma James Brown esce soltanto molto poco da album studi anche se partecipa regolarmente alla registrazione di titoli con altro raggruppa ("They Don't Want Music", con Black Eyed Peas nel 2005). Muore il 25 dicembre 2006 ad atlanta che lascia al mondo della musica un'eredità composta da più di 75 album che gli hanno valsi, non senza ragione, il soprannome di "The Godfather Of Soul".
