ARMAND VAN HELDEN
Armand Van Helden nasce a Boston da padre di origini olandesi-indonesiane e da madre di origini franco-libanesi. A causa del lavoro del padre, pilota dell'Air Force, passa la sua infanzia in giro per il mondo; nel 1988, tornato definitivamente a Boston, scopre l'house e l'hip hop. Sempre più attirato da questi generi musicali decide di trasferirsi a New York, dove inizia a frequentare i rave della Grande Mela e, dopo qualche tempo, a fare i suoi DJ set nei club della città. Nel 1994 esordisce con un singolo, "The witch doctor", pubblicato dalla storica etichetta della dance americana Strictly Rhythm. Il pezzo riscuote parecchio successo e
improvvisamente Van Helden si ritrova a fare remix per artisti tra i più diversi come Jimmy Sommerville, Real McCoy o Ace Of Base. Nel frattempo collabora e produrre singoli sotto svariati pseudonimi (Pirates of the Caribbean, Funky Shelltoes, Hardheads). Nel 1996 la sua popolarità cresce ancora di più dopo il remix di "Professional widow" per Tori Amos: il singolo arriva al numero uno nelle classifiche inglesi. La vera svolta avviene però, nel 1999 quando esce "U Don't Know Me" che anticipa l'uscita del disco d'esordio "2 Future 4U". Nel 2000 viene invece pubblicato "Killing Puritans", seguito da "Ganghi Khan" nel 2001, "Funk Phenomena: The Album! nel 2003, "New York: A Mix Odyssey" nel 2004 e "Nympho" nel 2005 e "Ghettoblaster" nel 2007. A ottobre 2008 esce il suo ultimo lavoro, "New York: A Mix Odyssey "2. Van Helden parte untegrante del progetto Duck Sauce, che ritroveremo cliccando nella nelle biografie alla lettera D.
